Hip-Hop Orchestra Experience

Part concert, part pulsating dance party, and part club night, Hip-Hop Orchestra Experience fuses classical and hip-hop music, creating a bold style flowing with underground energy. Led by composer/pianist JooWan Kim, Oakland-based Ensemble Mik Nawooj subverts expectations with a multi-genre crew that includes classical instrumentation such as piano and percussion, merged with mesmerizing MCs and captivating turf dancing.

Imagine the seminal works of Mozart, Bach, or Beethoven, deconstructed and reimagined with funky rhythms and rapid-fire rhymes. It’s a mashup of the oldest old-school and the marvelously modern, resulting in “textures swimming through the sound ... like the world’s fastest ping-pong game” (Pitchfork).
