Ladysmith Black Mambazo
The spirit of South Africa
Saturday, Mar. 30, 2024
7:30pm // Atwood Concert Hall
The group Nelson Mandela called “South Africa’s cultural ambassadors to the world” returns to Anchorage! Five-time Grammy winning group Ladysmith Black Mambazo has toured worldwide for more than 60 years to spread a message of peace.
Introduced to many Americans on Paul Simon’s Graceland in 1986, the a cappella ensemble radiates peace, love, and harmony through their collective voices with instantly recognizable warmth. “You go to a Ladysmith Black Mambazo show to be reminded that the human voice is the most beautiful sound on Earth” (Washington Post).
Maintaining a deep respect for their Zulu culture, Ladysmith continues to evolve, carrying on founder Joseph Shabalala’s dream to “keep South Africa alive in people’s hearts.” Join them and leave the theatre with your heart full and your spirit lifted.
