Recognized among The New York Times “Best of Theater,” Electric Root Presents: The Sound of (Black) Music is a vibrant concert reimagining of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical through a utopian, afro-futuristic lens of love. Cherished songs such as “Do-Re-Mi,” “Edelweiss,” and “Climb Ev’ry Mountain'' are recast through a Black roots music kaleidoscope of jazz, gospel, blues, soul, funk and Afro-beat.
Co-directed by Shariffa Ali and Kamilah Long, The Sound of (Black) Music channels the singular musical gifts of some of today’s most talented musicians into an overflowing celebration. These veteran vocalists are supported by an electrifying band, bringing to life hope, healing, and the uplifting spirit of Black roots music. Climb ev’ry mountain for one of the most titanically musical nights of the year.
